2005 NARI Coty Award Winner Kitchens 60,000 and over. Awarded to Trafton Builders.

“I can’t stand this confining kitchen any longer!”  These were the first words the owners said to us.  The dark finish on the cabinets, old appliances and wide grouted tile on the counter and floor all dated this kitchen.  The upper cabinets over the peninsula and the raised bar area closed in the kitchen.  Previous owners had removed one of the uppers to open things up a bit, but it wasn’t enough to bring life into this dated kitchen.

Mrs. H wanted a “Tuscan Kitchen”, open and fresh, with new cabinets, new wet bar area, granite counters, with stainless steel sink & appliances, and more lighting. Our design placed the new convection oven, convection microwave & warming drawer in the old refrigerator location, called for the removal of the wall to the family room allowing us to add additional cabinets, sink and wine Captain, and relocating the refrigerator to the old double oven location.  The cook top and sink only moved inches. Since we provided new cabinets we were able to give the owners deep, full extension drawers under the cook top for their pots & pans and a handy lazy Susan in the corner cabinet between the sink and cook top, thus giving the owners storage they never had before.  Removing the upper peninsula cabinets and lowering the bar counter equal to the sink counter really opened up the kitchen and gave the feeling of additional square footage being added.  We also custom designed the hood with the owners input creating just the look she was looking for.  The counters are granite with a tumbled marble back splash.  New recessed can lights in the ceiling and under cabinets lights brighten the kitchen area very nicely. The cabinets were painted with a creamy satin finish with the walls & ceiling the same color only they are two shades darker.  This technique gives a wonderful tone on tone look.  The final touch was the slate like tiles which start at the front door, going into the family room, and into the kitchen & eating nook area. This entire area is now one warm and cozy great room. The owners say that when family and friends come into their home for the first time since the remodel – they can not believe the wonderful transformation.  And of course the owners love the open, fresh look of their new “Tuscan Kitchen”.  Total cost of project is -       $ 71,000.00
